A Dry January

Welcome 2019 and all its frigidness!

It's been crisp out! First the Wind, (the bird box jokes )and then the storm Everything is chapped. my knuckles, my lips and even my Scalp! I don't know about you but I don't have much problem with an oily scalp as I do a dry, sorta itchy one. Yeah yeah, the grass is always greener, but I rather have an oily scalp than a dry one. Oils have always been a sign of hydration and health! If you have an oilier scalp or skin type, you'll most likely be enjoying your hair years after me! I've been trying so many different things and researching better ways to eat or more natural moisturizing products to use. Less is more when it comes to my sensitive skin I realized fast "don't fix it if it isn't broken" I decided to go back to the basics, of what I remembered back in beauty school. need oil? add oil! I'm sure you've heard about people using coconut oil as treatments and to strengthen hair and fix dead ends. Don't do it Keep the coconut oil next to the stove! If you have broken ends, the only thing you can do for treatment is prebooking those 8-10 week trims!

I learned about two years ago, Coconut oil is made up of very large molecules.  Too large to penetrate the cuticle of our hair. Therefore the oil just sits on top, coating and weighing the hair down. Moral of the story, Coconut is just too heavy for hair to deal with, I've experienced more breakage from clients using Coconut as a heat protectant and then cooking their hair completely off when they hit it with their hot tool. Now that you know what NOT to use, Here is what's been working for me since 2013 Almond Oil

100% natural Almond Oil. I know what you're thinking, sounds just the same as coconut. Well let me tell you Almond oil has a much smaller molecule and is a lighter weight oil altogether.  I use this about once a month, directly on my scalp. The purpose is to hydrate and nourish your scalp so you hair can grow out the healthiest and strongest it can be! We already use so many chemicals on our skin, I love using natural, lightweight almond oil because it's NATURAL and washes out with just one shampoo Healthy scalps make all the difference. Take care of your skin as well as your hair Set up a olaplex or scalp treatment with your next haircut or color service!

The extra few minutes of TLC will change the game

How I use it:

  • I use this about once a month, directly on my scalp.

  • I take about 2 tablespoons in a small container and warm it up in a hot bowl of water or in the microwave for less than 10 seconds.

  • Starting at my natural part I will drizzle the almond oil along my hairline.

  • Parting about and inch apart- going from my forehead to the back of my head, I do the same thing + drizzle

  • As it starts to run down-I disperse it at the hairline + above my ears

  • I don't worry too much about the bottom of my head, gravity will take it's toll

  • With my fingertips, I gently massage my scalp for about 3-5 minutes and comb through the ends with a wet brush until product is evenly dispersed throughout scalp and hair

  • throw it up in a pony for about 10- 30 minutes (sometimes I even throw a towel over my pillow and sleep with it-depending on sensitivity)

  • Apply scalp scrub to hairline and part- Use fingertips to gently exfoliate scalp

  • Wash it out with a cleansing or hydrating shampoo and condition ends (sometimes I don't even have to condition)

  • The purpose is to hydrate and nourish your scalp so you hair can grow out the healthiest and strongest it can be! IGK Low Key Scalp Scrub
